Epidemic Spread in Adaptive Social Networks with Community Structure

چکیده
When an epidemic spreads in a population, individuals may adaptively change the structure of their social contact network in response. We study the spread of epidemics in an adaptive network with community structure. Community structure is a characteristic of social networks that has been neglected in previous adaptive network epidemic models. We model the effect of heterogeneous communities on infection levels. We also show how an epidemic can alter the community structure.

Stochastic analysis of epidemics on adaptive time varying networks.
Many studies investigating the effect of human social connectivity structures (networks) and human behavioral adaptations on the spread of infectious diseases have assumed either a static connectivity structure or a network which adapts itself in response to the epidemic (adaptive networks). However, human social connections are inherently dynamic or time varying. Furthermore, the spread of man...

When an epidemic spreads in a population, individuals may adaptively change the structure of their social contact network to reduce risk of infection. Here we study the spread of an epidemic on an adaptive network with community structure. We model two communities with different average degrees. The disease model is susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS), and adaptation is rewiring of links bet...

Dear Editor The international community has been faced with one of the most critical health conditions in recent decades due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic which experience hundreds of thousands of infected cases and tens of thousands of deaths. Alongside of COVID-19 pandemic we have been faced a new phenomenon of "Infodemic" or “epidemic of false information” about COVID-19. C...
متن کاملEfficient local behavioral change strategies to reduce the spread of epidemics in networks
It has recently become established that the spread of infectious diseases between humans is affected not only by the pathogen itself but also by changes in behavior as the population becomes aware of the epidemic, for example, social distancing. It is also well known that community structure (the existence of relatively densely connected groups of vertices) in contact networks influences the sp...
متن کاملContagion on Networks with Self-Organised Community Structure
Living systems are organised in space. This imposes constraints on both their structural form and, consequently, their dynamics. While artificial life research has demonstrated that embedding an adaptive system in space tends to have a significant impact on its behaviour, we do not yet have a full account of the relevance of spatiality to living self-organisation. Here, we extend the REDS model...
